Takahashi Ai: To speak honestly, those were hard times as we’re losing opportunities to apprear on TV shows and other mass media, though we had chances to go to abroad to held concerts. I couldn’t regard that period wonderful in those days.
It was exactly the same period I totally missed Morning Musume, since they’d disappeared from my sight and the public as well, after the era when they were the social phenomenon. So I’d get envious whenever one of my friends who had noticed the excellence of MM’s performance earlier tells me that he kept going to MM’s concerts even in that period. However I suppose, for the members, that period must have been nothing but struggling in the darkness for an exit.
Meanwhile abroad, there were many fans who had already noticed the brilliance of Morning Musume lead by Takahashi Ai before ordinary Japanese would find it. In my career of the diplomatic cultural exchanging activities since 2008, I heard many times that foreign young people referring to Morning Musume. In those days I thought it was just because of delayed spread of fashion. But now I’ve realized I was totally wrong. They’re watching what was happening which I completely missed.
You can hardly see what is too close to you. That’s what young people all over the world who love the country far away taught me once again. “I’m really glad to hear that people around the world love the songs of the Platinum Era”, Takahashi told me after the concert in Bangkok.
